New Years To Do list update

May 29, 2009

Since the year is not quite half over, I think I’m doing well:

Graduate from grad school and get a job Done!

Enter at least 1 Iron Cupcake Earth challenge (I was so excited about this one that I have 2 different wine cupcakes in the oven now) Done!

Finish 3 knitting projects – not so much done, but almost done with one thing

Sew something I would wear in public – half done!  I made a pair of PJ pants.  I wouldn’t necessarily wear them in public, but I think they look nice, so half done.

“They want you to start teabagging too.”

April 15, 2009

Happy teabagging day!  I absolutely love this blog post from Dan Savage and this clip from the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC:

Conservatives go teabagging April 9: MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow dips into subject of conservative activists expressing themselves through teabagging. Air America Radio national correspondent Ana Marie Cox offers top-down analysis.

(Stupid WordPress won’t let me embed the video, sorry.)  It really does make me giggle every time I hear Maddow say “teabagging.”  Best.  Video.  Ever.

If you aren’t sure of the other definitions of “teabagging,” see the Urban Dictionary.

Orla Kiely

April 14, 2009

I don’t know why, but I’m totally into Orla Kiely and really want one of her bags.  I saw some in a boutique in New Orleans and actually considered spending $200+ dollars for a bag – for about 3 seconds and then decided it’s completely impractical.  I guess this why I don’t wear designer jeans or anything else that’s a big name.  I much rather wear something label-less and not feel like I’m selling out.  But there’s something irresistible about her patterns.  Maybe I should just buy some of her housewares from Target.

updates

April 12, 2009
  • Almost half done with my New Years To Do list:
    • Finished Iron Cupcake.  No progress on knitting or sewing though.
    • Graduation is on the horizon.  I just ordered the cap and gown and found out that I’m receiving the Anne M. Boyd / Beta Phi Mu award at graduation.  I have to say that I’m really proud of myself.
    • I also have a job!  I’m going to start working for the General Services Administration in DC sometime this summer.  Details aren’t in place yet.  I’ll be working on the usa.gov website.
  • I just finished presenting a paper at the 2009 National Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association Conference in New Orleans.  I’m currently in the airport, so I’ll post pictures to my Flickr once I’m home.
  • I’m ready to be home and sleep in my own bed.  The end.

fingerstaches

April 10, 2009

Why are fingerstaches popular?  (And I use “popular” with a grain of salt.)  I love this question from the fingerstache website:

Ladies -
I am going to get a permanent fingerstache tattoo for my 30th birthday – couple questions:
1. Does a fingerstache tattoo make me more or less desirable in the dating world.
2. Is there a certain stash that is sexier than others? – I’m thinking of getting the classic curly.
3. Is it better to get it on the left hand forefinger, or the right hand?

Thanks for the advice fingerstachers.

To answer his questions:

  1. No one cares except for you.
  2. No one cares except for you.
  3. No one cares except for you.

Why am I even paying attention to fingerstaches?  I’m feeding into the beast.
